My well behaved travelers...Seattle, WA

We arrived at Seattle/Tacoma Airport just before 9pm, Washington time. The kids did AMAZING on the flight. Things have come a long way from the days of schlepping an infant and a 2 year old or a 2 year old and a 4 year old through the airports. I realized today that I've been dragging these kids on planes for a long time now to visit family in California...and on my own most times...it was absolute torture (the flying, not the family). I feel like all the hard work is paying off! They were helpful, fun to be around and got along with each other swimmingly.

We met a really nice family who's vacation was coming to an end, but the father was a pilot for the airline and they had been in the airport since noon waiting to get on a flight and still weren't able to get one today, having to stay in MN one more night. The couple had two kids slightly younger than Kyra and Christian who had obviously done this before and were being so good regardless of how tired they visibly were. You could tell that traveling as a family was a common (helpful that they get to fly standby for free) and enjoyable occurrence for them. They weren't frustrated at the turn of events, and in fact, took it in stride as an excuse to stay one more night and visit with more friends in town. They also shared some Hawaii stories. The husband's mother lived on Maui for some time in Kula (I know, small world!) and just recently moved after deciding to sell her land to Oprah...apparently Oprah likes Kula. You learn something new every day! And the fact that it's been so long since I've been on Maui probably shows. A little out of the loop.

A good start to a great vacation! We checked into our "less than fancy" motel room just in time for them to crash. Tomorrow will be picking up the rental car and driving out of the city into Bellingham to see what we can get into there...trying to decide between ocean walks on rocky beaches or driving up Mt. Baker so they can walk through a real forest on a real mountain. Christian is in awe of the mountains...poor Minnesota kid. Good thing we're changing all that with this trip. Time to get these kids acclimated to life outside of Minnesota and Uncle Bud's house in California.

Waiting to board our plane
Who's that kid hiding under the one free seat left? Yep, he's mine....facepalm.

Waiting to take off, getting all set up with their tunes.

The best $8.00 investment ever!

And they're out! No bedtime story needed.
